I have been spending all my gaming time playing Animal Crossing New Leaf recently. But honestly, how could I resist? Building a town for freakish animals from the ground up, designing your own clothes, and working your behind off to make your house as big as possible for no real reason... Kind of hypnotic really.
One thing that makes this game so fun is that there really aren't any serious objectives. No princesses to save, no bad guy bent on taking over the world, it really lets you relax. Don't get me wrong, there are technically objectives to Animal Crossing games like making your villagers happy and making your town beautiful exc. but there's no feeling of urgency to any of it. Its a great game to play when you just need down time.
I have been a big fan of the Animal Crossing games from the beginning, but New Leaf has some interesting new things to do, like building Public Works Projects to improve your town. Its taken me forever but I finally just got the plan for the Modern Police Station. Yeah, I know, I'm way too cool for this blog. *sarcasm*

And if you don't want to spend hours of your time working on your Public Works Projects, you can always spend hours of your time completing some of the other non-pressuring objectives like catching bugs or fishing to fill up your museum! I don't even want to tell you about the days I spent trying to catch the Tarantula and the Scorpion during the summer months. I'm not even kidding. I actually spent days of my actual life catching those bugs.
... It was worth it.
... It was worth it.
Then there's what is probably the most popular feature of New Leaf, the QR code! The QR code makes it possible to create your own designs for clothing, flags, posters, and standees which other people can download onto their 3DS and use in their own games! I have to admit I have been using this feature a lot and there are tons of awesome clothes you can use to customize your character and you can find them easily on websites like Tumblr and Pinterest.
I'm just going to go ahead and tell you now, if you haven't unlocked the sewing machine yet or if you have just started playing, befriend Sable in the Able Sister's Shop immediately. It takes forever especially if you aren't turning the time forward (or 'time traveling') and you will want to go ahead and get started with that so you can start using QR codes.

I guess I should also mention my least favorite part of the game, the NPC interaction. I don't know, I just don't have as much fun talking to the random animals as I do building my house or catching all the bugs even though I think it was supposed to be a really major part of the game, especially in the earlier releases. Don't get me wrong it can be fun, I just don't spend as much time working on character relations as I do everything else in the game. Maybe thats why I've never received any pictures from the characters to commemorate our friendship. (I know, I'm obviously a terrible person.)
There are tons of different animals you can talk to from hamsters and cats to wolves, and they all have different personalities. Some of them are sweet and just want to be your friend, others are real jerks and can get on your last nerve. My favorite other than Sable (if I had to choose one) is Hamphrey the black hamster. Hes kind of a jerk but hes freaking adorable!

I guess I've kind of started rambling a bit, there's just so much to do in Animal Crossing that I probably wouldn't be able to describe it all in one post anyway! I really enjoy the game and I think most people would, especially casual gamers who are just looking for something to detract them and occupy their time, even my Mom plays it!
So, I can say Animal Crossing New Leaf is absolutely worth playing. There are still tons of things about this game I didn't mention like the Dream Suite and Grace's Fashion Checks which eventually lead to the opening of a new high fashion high price store, but those are for another post. Just give the game a shot and its extremely likely you will end up totally hooked!
And as a last point, I'm just going to leave some of my QR codes here... You know, for no reason at all ;)
